St. Xavier’s Carmel Monastery was founded in 1952 as a result of the goodwill and zeal of some Catholics of Irinjalakuda and neighbouring parishes. They bought a suitable site for it and offered a certain amount of money. All other expenses were met by St. Mary’s Monastery Elthuruth.
A Boys’ Home was started in 1958 and a Printing Press in 1960. The Monastery chapel was raised to a Parish Church in 1977. The starting of cbse school, I. T. C., the new job oriented technical institute and production unit added a new dimension to the apostolate of training the youth.
